The Devil Dictum edition by Frederick Heimbach Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

The Devil's Dictum takes the archaic and arcane political institutions of America and shows them in a dark mirror to reveal the deep flaws in our most revered institutions. Nothing and nobody is immune from pillory the Supreme Court, Congress, the President, the Electoral College, and much more are shown in the context of their absurd rules stretched to the level of self-parody. And yes, it is sprinkled with a cast of politicos from Hitler to Nixon.
Crazy, wild, fun and unpredictable.....
What a fun read!! It moves at exactly the right pace, doesn't bother trying to explain things that don't add to the plot or the action, and such a mashup of characters!! Gotta read it!!!
This was my introduction to the genre of Alternate History and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Frederick Heimbach is a masterful story teller that keeps you riveted to the each page and surprised and delighted by every twist and turn. A great read for the historical novice but for those with deeper grasp of history will appreciate how it is woven into the fabric of this delightfully twisted historical tale.

Definite must read!
Any book that starts out with "The Chief Justice liked his presidents crazy, but not too crazy...." is bound to be a winner. And once again, I was right, like always. I've forever been a fan of dystopia, and this is about as dystopian (while maintaining a razor sharp sense of humor) as it gets. What do you expect if Hitler were president and the country was run by Satanists? I can only hint at Nixon's role in all of this, but trust me, you'll like it. He's much for entertaining than than the original one was. Definitely and positively worth a read!
I like alternate history, and I like American history, so this book was a good combo for me. The premise is that instead of America being founded by Christians, it was founded by Satanists. The resulting world sometimes seemed over-the-top, but I kept thinking, “Well…maybe it could have happened like this?” And the author mentions writing pulp fiction in the acknowledgments, so a little over-the-top is to be expected. ) Most of the enjoyment for me was learning the history, seeing familiar characters in unfamiliar situations, and trying to guess identities. I actually was less interested in the plot than in reading about those “historical” details. Even so it was a page-turner and a quick read, and I’d recommend it for alternate history fans.
I am only about 100 pages into this, but it is the "damnedest" thing I have read in awhile. Not giving away too much, but a bit of a spoiler

I'll wait.

In the first chapter, the President of the US, Adolph Hitler, is assassinated on orders of the chief justice of the supreme court. He was too crazy. Carried off by the "raven taxi" and dropped to his death. Very alternate reality. The pilgrims ended up in Haiti? LOL. Funny stuff so far
