Maggie’s new case was supposed to be fun but… She has a difficult client – Pia Williams, High Fashion Model, a difficult case proving Pia’s agent, Robert MacCliff has cheated her and an arrogant opposing attorney - Carson Blake of Cavanaugh and Hartmann. Sure, the case takes her into the glamorous world of high fashion but that’s where the fun ends.
She has to win this case – and she can, providing the heavens open and a few miracles float down. And Maggie’s also moving into her new house in two weeks – a house in which every room needs to be re-done first. Maggie thinks she has her hands full – until the Month of Fashion on the Magnificent Mile begins at the famed Drake Hotel and one of the top designers is murdered at the first show with Maggie’s client, Pia, as the prime suspect.
Then the Assistant Production Manager is murdered at the second show…and Maggie is off on one of her most challenging and high profile cases ever! A missing gun, an exotic poison, alibis for everyone and no one, well, it’s confusing to say the least.
The two murders have to be related but how? There’s no motive for the second murder… or so it seems. Maggie barrels in as only she can and as she starts closing in on the killer, things get really ugly. She’s threatened and poisoned – and just as she realizes who is really behind all of it – she’s trapped in a room with no way out… and the killer’s coming back…with a gun….
High Fashion isMURDER Maggie Flaherty Murder Mystery Series Book # 6 edition by Julie Ramson Literature Fiction eBooks
I have read the Maggie Flaherty books by Julie Ramson from the very first one, and mostly enjoyed them. Like some other readers I was initially frustrated (occasionally I still am) by the author's propensity to describe in minute detail every move the people in her stories made, but that has at least somewhat improved since that very first one - except perhaps the still excessive eye rolling. But I am quite baffled by the overwhelmingly positive reviews of High Fashion is....MURDER. The one very positive aspect of the story is the ingenious parallel involved in the solution (enough said). But a large part of the book is consumed by the excruciatingly boring, repetitious conversations of Maggie with people at the fashion shows, which fill pages and pages of the book. The only way to survive that, after the first few, for me was to jump over most of them which, as it turned out, did not make the slightest difference in following the story to its conclusion.

High Fashion isMURDER Maggie Flaherty Murder Mystery Series Book # 6 edition by Julie Ramson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Maggie is portrayed as a very likable and unique person. The supporting cast is great and the interactions with friends and family are perfect. In this one, she's involved with models and other high fashion types. Good story line and a surprising (at least to me) ending.
I have read all Julie Ramsom Maggie Flaherty Murder Mystery Series. They take on the genre of the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum Series. I like having some easy reading to wind down with at night. They suspense filled with everyday humor and family experiences is enjoyable.
I will try to express just how much I love this book!
Book six in the Maggie Flaherty Mysteries, takes place over the complete month of Chicago fashion week and a little past. It picks up four months after book five, but the author does an excellent job of giving us a view of what she's been doing without wasting our time. If for some reason you have not read book five, don't fear that you will be lost. Julie Ramson does a great job of feeling you in on the who's who and when they joined the cast. But it will make you want to go back and read the other five just to immerse yourself in this wonderful Chicago family's life. The authors use of Hitchcock movies for foreshadowing was quite unique and I enjoyed it greatly. I'm still bouncing in happiness!!!
It also made me pull out North By Northwest to re-watch!
I highly recommend this entire series! You get a wonderful mystery for free with Prime or 2.99 to buy.
Maggie gives the reader the view point of a resident living in Chicago and what it is like moving in and around its neighborhoods. I really like the way Maggie ruminates as she works her way through the problems of living life and running a law practice. I especially like how Ms. Ramson gives the reader enough clues to try to sort out who has done what to whom; adding in the twists and turns to keep you focused down the path towards Maggie's resolution. Great read!
This was a very good book. I like all of the Maggie Flaherty books. I am always looking forward to the next book coming out. I really like how all Maggie's family is into the stories. The family continues to get bigger as more Maggie books are published and they really fit into the story. Again, being impatient I am waiting for her next book to come out.
Once again, Julie Ramson has written an ecellent book, as all the others of the Maggie Flaherty series have been! Taking place in the world of High Fashion, Maggie must prove in this book that fashion model Pia's agent is not living up to the contract. But of course, there are murders involved, and we once again meet Maggie's family and heart throb, Digs. Ms. Ramson writes a delightful book, filled with intrigue and family interaction. The solution to the murders is not one you expect, despite the hints dropped throughout the story. Once again, Ms. Ramson has outdone herself. Her stories just keep getting better and better. But read them in order to understand all the characters. I look forward to #7 in the series!!
Well, it seems my time being entertained by Maggie Flaherty on the commute to work has come to an end until the next book is released.
I've just finished High Fashion is ... Murder, and I loved it. Again, it's the mix of the murder case, with other legal cases popping in and out throughout the text, the family interactions that make this series so unique.
Julie Ramsom weaves an intricate, entertaining plot in this book. I'm not a huge fashion follower - the only label in my wardrobe is do not tumble dry - but I found the setting fun, and the cast of characters entertaining.
I had no idea who the murderer was, and was rather quite disgruntled when the person I thought was the killer turned out to be nothing but a nasty money hungry washed up model. Talking of models I did like Pia, hope she pops up again in another Maggie Murder Mystery.
Definitely a five star story, in a five star series. Great book and I can't wait for the next one.
