Every summer, Maya visits her uncle who lives at the edge of the mighty jungle. Over the years, she has made some little friends there. She has spent countless happy hours playing with them in summers past. But this year, she learns of an unwelcome new arrival who is bullying her friends. Will Maya be able to come up with a plan to defeat the bully? Written entirely in lyrical verse and beautifully illustrated throughout, Snake's Mistake is the first of five tales in the Maya's Little Friends series by Otto Mouton and Lotta Farber. My five-year old was thrilled with this little gem. The heroine is clever...and fabulously, does not look like every other heroine of young person's books. The rhyming works across age groups (a visiting 3-year old loved it and my daughter is working on it by herself at 5); while it has a bit of a British rhyming scheme ("er" pronounced 'ah'), there are plenty of jokes in the rhyme that my child enjoyed. When snake makes his mistake, my daughter found it a metaphor for the mistake of all kinds of bullies. Bravo for this book which is lovely to read, well-drawn, and a breather from books that all look the same.Product details

Snake Mistake Otto Mouton Lotta Farber 9781907793004 Books Reviews
i simply can't wait to see what adventure maya and her little friends are upto next!what a brave and true friend maya is and how delightful her friends are.visually and phonetically brilliant, this book will engage even the most restless mind.a wonderful story, great to read aloud, and lovely way to introduce and reinforce themes of friendship and courage without being over bearing.
Absolutely winning adaptation of a Jataka tale - utterly beautiful illustrations with rhyming couplets to match. The gentle style and helpful moral should strike just the right tone for kids of all ages. Disclaimer alert I read this book while it was in proofs but am bowled over by its final form. Kudos to the authors - long may you run - there's a lot more where this came from -).
I agree with the first reviewer... phonetically fantabulous -- a clever, witty story and the comparison with "The Gruffalo" the first review makes is not an exaggeration. My nephew simply loved it! What a surprising delight from an author and publisher I've never heard of before! Perhaps because they are based in the UK. The book is great fun, very educational in terms of language and has wonderful, deep moral lessons. If you have a child around six, I unhesitatingly recommend it to you! The last image and the last couplet (for yes, it is entirely in awesome verse) will stay with young kids.
